The greatest joys in life are experienced in happy family relationships... the cultivation of a happy home requires effort and energy, forgiveness and patience, love and endurance and sacrifice, but it is worth all of this and more. -Gordon B. Hinkley

my quick trip to northern california

I had the wonderful opportunity to be with my aunt (my mom's sister) when she went through the Temple for the first time and was sealed to her husband for all eternity. She and Uncle Joe were preparing to go to the Temple together before he passed away this summer.  To be able to be there with her and feel the sweet spirit of the Temple and to feel the joy and love from those of our family who have passed away was so special and wonderful.  I was so honored and grateful to be there with her.

Getting to CA was quite the adventure!  I was suppose to leave Thursday evening and so I spent the day cleaning, cooking and preparing to leave my family. I showered and tried to look cute (this rarely happens, the looking cute part!) and as soon as Andy got home from work, we headed to the airport.  We kissed and said goodbye (airport good-byes are especially meaningful) and he drove off.  When I was checking in, the computer kept kicking me out saying that my plane wasn't leaving until Saturday so I called an attendant over.  He confirmed that my flight had been cancelled and rescheduled for Sat.  Uggh!  The best he could do was reroute me in the morning to Portland and then on to Medford.  Anyway, I called my aunt who was already in Medford waiting for me (its about an hour from her house).  She thought it was a joke and I told her that I wished it was!  Then I called Andy and he was just getting home so he fed the kids the dinner I had prepared and came back to pick me up.
Anyone who knows me very well knows that I do NOT like to fly.  I am grateful that flying can get me places so quickly of coarse, but I dread getting on the plane.  In the past this has caused my so much anxiety that I would be unable to sleep and be sick for days before a flight.  Then I discovered zanex (sp?).  I won't incriminate anyone by saying where I got the zanex ;) but I only use it for flying and it makes all the difference!  Well, this night that my plane had been cancelled, I had already taken my zanex in preparation for the flight and so by the time Andy had come back to the airport to get me and we got home, I was v e r y relaxed.  I was surprised how much so but considering that I had no anxiety at all, I guess that makes sense.
Anyway, I woke up at 4:30 to head back to the airport (not looking nearly as cute this time!) and to make a long story short got into Medford at about 4:00 pm which was about 3 hours late.  BUT, I made it! And it was all well worth it!
From there it was a whirl-wind 2 1/2 days!  A wonderful 2 1/2 days and then I arrived home on Monday morning to a beautiful birthday home-coming.

I had to fly on a propeller plane from Portland to Medford with the warning that if the frozen fog in Medford didn't lift then we would have to turn around and go back to Portland!  Luckily that didn't happen and we landed just before the fog returned.  That was an answer to my prayers!

Medford, OR. Temple

We cried a lot in the car on the way to the Temple and the tears didn't stop there! :)

The incredibly sweet women from my aunts ward who came to be with her in the Temple.

Their husbands were there as well and they are awesome too!

We spent a lot of time with Uncle Jay as well (my mom's brother) and he was there when we got out of the Temple.  Maybe soon I will be back when he goes through the Temple! :)

After church on Sunday we headed down to Uncle Ed (my mom's other brother) and Kathy's house for a lunch get together with the people who could be there.  It was such a beautiful day and of coarse their property is a piece of heaven on earth!  We had delicious food and a wonderful time visiting.  I love my family so so much.  Being with them made me think that maybe someday I could move back, just to be closer.

We took a picture as the sun was going down and then we left for Medford to be at the airport at 4 am Monday morning.  This little gathering was a highlight of my trip for sure!
