The greatest joys in life are experienced in happy family relationships... the cultivation of a happy home requires effort and energy, forgiveness and patience, love and endurance and sacrifice, but it is worth all of this and more. -Gordon B. Hinkley

Wretched Dentist!

I HAD to go to the dentist this morning at 8 am. Really HAD to go. OH how I despise going to the dentist. So much so that I haven't been in about 2 years (that is embarrassing to admit!). But I could SEE the cavity. There was a little black dot on my tooth, so I could literally SEE the cavity... if I hadn't been able to SEE it, it may have been another year or 2 until I visited that awful place.

I was sore by the time I got to the appointment and not because of the stellar work-out I had on the treadmill this morning but from the stress & tension in my back & shoulders. I have birthed 5 children, why am I so afraid of this?! Anyway, it was more or less painless, other than the shots, the drilling, holding the jaw open for way too long and basically hanging upside down for 45 minutes. I made it out alive with another appointment in 2 weeks to replace an old cavity and put a crown on it (please no!) Did I mention that I never had a cavity in my life until I birthed children??

ANYWAY... I hadn't eaten anything for breakfast, in fear that I would throw it up on the dentist and it was 11 o'clock so I figured it was time to eat but my lip felt weird so I went to the mirror to check it out... and I found this...

My lip is like ground beef!! I haven't even eaten anything!! OK, I did have a 60 minute conversation with a friend who is leaving for Guam in 2 weeks but who chews on their lip when they talk? The picture just doesn't do it justice. But I am still numb and now deathly afraid for that to wear off because this is going to HURT!!

Have I mentioned how much I dislike going to the dentist??!!

BTW- I go to church with my dentist and this is nothing against him personally, (I guess) but I don't want to go back!!!

I am SO totally with you about the dentist! I would almost rather give birth than go the dentist. I avoid it at all costs. I told my dentist that I never had a cavity until after my second pregnancy - so I wanted to blame it on the pregnancy. He told me that was a myth - but I told him that, myth or not, I'm still holding the blame there. I truly feel your pain - hopefully after your next visit, it will be a very long time before you have to go again!
